"I come from a proud family that has been involved in public service for as long as I can remember. I want to work for you. We need to to get the kids back to 5 full days In-School Instruction, more sports and activities, better professional and technical education, and more money to the classrooms; a top priority. With nearly a decade of volunteer experience working with kids, I know what it takes to find solutions, navigate complicated government agencies, and get things done."
LIST OF ISSUES
FIRST PRIORITY: FIVE FULL DAYS OF IN-SCHOOL INSTRUCTION
We have no greater priority than returning the children of North Clackamas back to their classrooms for full-day learning. While at Tri-Met for 25 years, I was in managed more than 200 union employees and was involved in collective bargaining team. I’ll work with our superintendent and the unions to negotiate an immediate end to this political standoff that’s keeping our children remote, isolated and neglected.
KIDS NEED SPORTS & ACTIVITIES
I’ve been passionate about volunteering in youth sports and activities my entire life. They teach cooperation, competition, and the importance of practice. It promotes confidence, a strong work ethic and a desire to always improve. It’s critical we get sports and extracurricular activities back up-and-running immediately.
PROFESSIONAL & TECHINCAL EDUCATION
Offering career pathways to students who aren’t bound for a four-year university is one of the core responsibilities of the district. We need to partner with local trade unions to train carpenters, plumbers and steamfitters, welders and more. These are high paying, highly skilled jobs.
MORE MONEY TO THE CLASSROOMS
Every year, more funds are allocated to our schools than the year before, yet fewer are making it into the classroom. My education and experience afford us the unique opportunity to examine where the district, as an organization, is failing. As a school board member, I will scrutinize and expose the district’s existing organizational structures and push for reforms to get more money into the classroom.
